Six Nations Tourism Presents Movie Monday: Whale Rider

Based on the novel by Witi Ihimaera, Whale Rider a visually stunning and heart-wrenching drama for the whole family. Six Nations Tourism is excited to present this award-winning film, as their selection for August’s Movie Monday presentation.

Whale Rider is a 2002 New Zealand-German film directed by Niki Caro. The film stars Keisha Castle-Hughes as Kahu Paikea Apirana, a twelve-year old Maori girl whose ambition is to become the chief of the tribe. Her grandfather however, believes that this is a role reserved for males only. The film follows her journey as she develops the strength and courage to carve a new path for herself. Castle-Hughes earned critical acclaim in the role, and became the youngest nominee for the Academy Award for Best Actress at age 13.

Admission is by donation, and refreshments and popcorn will be provided. Don’t forget to bring your refillable water bottle, or purchase your very own from Six Nations Tourism.

Movie Summary

Showing will be at the Gathering Place by the Grand, with doors opening at 6:30PM. Arrive early to get the best seat.
